Welcome to PyXPlot! This program is a commandline plotting package, based
heavily upon the interface of gnuplot, intended to provide publication-quality
plots using an interface which is essentially the same as that used by the
original, except for various extensions where that was not felt to be powerful
enough. The motivation behind its creation was that the author found the output
of gnuplot to be rather unattractive and inflexible in appearance, yet at the
same time, there seemed to be an absence of any other quick and simple
commandline plotting packages. Whilst some packages such as pgplot did offer
very attractive output, they required a program to be written each time a plot
was to be produced, and this seemed to lack something of the ease of use of
gnuplot.

And so, the world seemed to be lacking something: a commandline plotting
package which could produce high-quality output. This program is an attempt to
fill that gap, and so make the world a better place. It aims to provide a tool
which is easy to invoke interactively, to visually inspect data, and equally
easy to embed within a scripting environment, and above all, which does not
require of users who are already familiar with gnuplot any significant work in
learning a new interface.

To install, type "./install".
